F or anyone who thinks that Hollywood glamour was buried when Katherine Hepburn finally kicked the teetering bucket, The Jane Ballroom, located in that charming curio, The Jane Hotel, will have you think again.
This stately lounge, rife with taxidermy, animal prints, lavish light fixtures, mirror balls, stained glass doors, and moiré patterns, looks like a cross between Sherlock Holmes's den and Norma Desmond's (see Sunset Boulevard) living quarters.
Additionally, lavish staircases, chandeliers -- that stalwart of design refinement -- and a raised mezzanine hit the "grand" adjective hard and elegantly. However, despite the above description, planned uses and inevitable clientele should temper any potential stuffiness.
Once the Jane Street Theater (birthplace of Hedgwick and the Angry Inch), the ballroom's milieu – a cross between old Hollywood and old intellectual – is both incongruent and strangely fitting. Such is the Jane: a study in bizarre mélange, bringing together historical allure, small rooms, cheap prices, and, now, a stately ballroom.
Though the spot, DJ, Manhattans et al, caters to the cocktail set, it has its hands in the arts crowd as well. Along with its interesting cocktail list -- including the D.F 68, a blend of hibiscus tequila, lillet rouge, and orange liqueur 12; or the Lady Marmalade, an interesting melange of gin, orange Liqueur, and marmalade 12 -- comes a grab-bag of theme nights. The Grand offers a weekly see-and-be-seen, curated by the Smile owners, and spinmasters, Carlos and Matt; independent movie nights; and arts roundtables.

After coming here again recently, it reconfirms how much we like this place. Parking still sucks but the drinkage and service is still good!

Ahhhh my little Jsne - I cannot live without a weekly pilgramage for the amazing little lounge thing. Al's is the best spot on earth. There is no comparison. If you are looking for that classic hole in the wall timeless lounge, the Jane is it!!!! If you are from the downtown or just visiting, you gotta visit The Jane.

I had a lot of fun my first & only time. I try and visit NYC often, and I like this place. It offers, sit down//stand up//and groove. The music was good too, which is certainly a key ingredient for me. I had a great time & hope to go back someday .. maybe even pick up a one of the cute staff members? :)

The Jane's food and drink was alright. Pricing is above average. I've heard it's quite nice so i paid there a visit... but I was surprised that it's not so busy at night... good crowd nevertheless. just a liiiiittle too dim.

Don't know what it's like inside, but the kids at the door are delinquents. "Dooood...my dad use to design spacecraft for exploration. How fucking cool is that? You gotta let me in"

Jane is the casual slut from high school. Everyone's done her, but no one really likes her. She's a decent fallback, but she's not the one you want to ask out to prom.
Worth a visit.

I loves me some The Jane. Only caveat is sometimes you end up with a bartender that doesn't know how to make anything else but the things that are on the menu, otherwise the decor, ambience, service, and clientele make it one of my favorites.

I am writing this review straight from the door to The Jane with my iPhone. The place is opening tonight, and it seems there is problems... but people are getting in tonight.

Grrrr... almost 4 stars. Had to think for a minute, then decide to leave room for improvement. I really really hope that The jane will develop into an even more awesome place.

Our waiter terrible. Overly familiar and amazingly slow. We practically had to send out smoke signals to get his attention. There was another waiter who seemed really efficient, my fellow diners and I remarked how great the disparity was among wait staff. A real shame. The scene was average at best. Nothing exceptional.

Currently hot! This spectacular three-room bar is littered with funky taxidermy, upholstered in velvet and basking in vintage opulence, and ready to handle your good times. I had mine last night.

No Bar? Bar One? Bar-tastic? Who can keep up with all of these cool upper west side bars popping up?
So last night, I was trying to recover from a pretty crappy day. It was an upsetting thrill ride into stress and back and I needed a damn drink like baby needs a teet :) I texted a few souls and my buddy, Shawn answered the call and he suggested The Jane Ballroom.
I hopped in a cab and headed over to a place called The Jane Ballroom and well, there was no Shawn. Apparently he got The Jane Ballroom and something else mixed up and so I stuck it out.
Upon walking in, I instantly felt at home. The people all smiled, the bartender smiled and then I then met my Sangria drinking friend and popped up to the bar to see what vino offerings they were pouring. He hooked me up with a nice full-bodied red and it was tasty. He even decanted it on the quick with this nifty little gadget that I now must own. Check it out when you go and you will see what I'm talking about.
From there, we headed to our little table to chat it up and I have to say I had a really nice time here. It is a total neighborhood bar where everybody knows your name. There is a ton of laughter going on and as for the four stars? all I can say is... hell yes!
