Review by Amy Chung |
his is not your mom and pop Greek restaurant. Thalassa is swanky and hip and so is the food. I know it is difficult to picture those calamari fritters or the olive-oil induced Greek salad prepared in a ‘hip’ way, but it is possible. Executive Chef Gregory Zapantis, a Cephalonian native marries the traditional recipes with contemporary flair. There is an ice display of all the fresh fish imported that lay clear-eyed for your consumption.
Thalassa means ‘Sea’ in Greek and the design resembles the clear Mediterranean blue waters with indigo light boxes highlighted across the long bar. Located in a historic building on Franklin Street, Thalassa is dubbed one of the best fine-dining eateries in Tribeca. –A.C
