Thin is in, always, especially in New York. Consider the Air Mac: is it really necessary that the Apple campaign focused on the computer's thinness? No. It could have focused on its lightness, but they chose to focus on size. Smart move, Jobs. Now even the pizzerias are following Apple's lead, as the recent opening of yet another thin-crust pizzerias demonstrates.
T he latest on the block, Spunto (which, according to babelfish, means 'cue') is sister to Gruppo, Posto, and Vezzo, all one-name thin-crust pizza places under the same company. This West Village location has 64 seats, a beer-and-wine licence, and the requisite gas-fired brick oven.
But what's really great here is the range of toppings and combinations: the Shroomtown includes portobello, shiitake, and button mushrooms, complimented by white-truffle oil; the ChixPotle comes with chipolte chicken, pineapple, and cilantro; the Big Pineapple features pineapple (of course) and smoked bacon; and the Meat Lovers Pizza is piled with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and anduille sausage.
For the build-your-own-pizza options, the toppings are just as unusual. A pesto and cheese base is an option, and toppings include homemade meatballs, grilled asparagus, and caramelized onions.

9 Reader Reviews | Liked the beer lineup, was amazed by the decor but was disappointed with the food. It certainly did not live up to the surroundings or warrant the staggering price tag.

It gets four stars because I've never had pizza here, I've sat at the bar, drank wine or beer and the cheese platter more than once and love it, good atmosphere and friendly service, I will update my rating once I try them for dinner.

Not going to waste any time, you have read the other long reviews and I concur with all of them, hands down the best gourmet pizza in the city.

Great pizza. the menu's not huge, but whatever. they were super knowledgeable about what was gluten free. and i like the little tables on newport. roots, your exterior is humble but your heart is glowing and i love you.

This place is great, with a pizza menu sure to please whatever anyone is in the mood for. My old man loves the chipotle pizza, and I Love just about everything.
The people are friendly, good selection of beers and I like the pictures on the wall.

You can't go wrong with this place! I wish the pizzas were a little cheaper, but they are ridiculously delicious. My favorite is the chipotle pizza.

Spunto, we love you guys. And, boy, we'd love to clone you — or at least your fantastic little, er, big pizza joint. Great addition.
