WaSho shaunll Street. It would not be a far stretch to say that this street name carries with it the heaviest load of any civic moniker in history. This financial thoroughfare is the home of ulcers, pure elation, of indignance, degradation, of thrilling success and of absolute demise. But, though the Wall Street district might not be currently in anyone's good books of late, the area (along with all of its market connotations) seems to be looking on brighter days.

Case in point: SHO Shaun Hergatt, the latest big-budget dining spot brave enough to open its doors in a neighborhood that, until recently, has experienced an overwhelming pall. Unlike the economy under Bush's reign, SHO Shaun Hergatt, with Chef Shaun Hergatt at the helm, is bound to be a tightly run ship.

Indeed, Hergatt, a formally trained French chef from Australia, plans to run a seamless, minimalist kitchen. Although SHO Shaun Hergatt's cuisine does fall under the oft ambiguous, sloppy classification, know as fusion, the menu – a balanced amalgamation of Asian and French cookery – is anything but chaotic. Each dish is composed under Hergatt's stringent policy to stick to a maximum of four ingredients, keeping flavours streamlined and pure.

The chef uses seasonal ingredients from Australia, the U.S, and Asia to compose his elegant culinary card. Among the unique items are: salt pressed Tasmanian ocean trout with nashi Pear and kalamansi dressing; Zucchini Blossoms filled with Blue Prawns, Lemongrass and Kaffir Lime Leaf Scented Sambal; Thai pepper dusted beef with glazed beef cheek and pearl onion soubise; slow poached halibut with silky celeriac, white asparagus and black truffle and Maine lobster “poęlé” with English peas, saffron and verjus emulsion

Keeping to a limited selection of ingredients during a recession is imperative; at the same time, so is offering a vast selection of wines. Sho Shaun, with its list of 550 bottles and ever-changing sommelier's list, delivers in both departments. If the large quantities of wine you drink aren't enough to give you an over-inflated ego, then dining in this New York restaurant's lush environment, accented with genuine pearl and bronze tabletops, an infinity pool fountain, and silk covered walls, certainly will.

Lots of changes, but all for the better! Its an elegant, yet hip stylish restaurant with excellent service and delicious tasty food. Great taste, great service, great looking and nice...that's why I go out to eat. Will definitely go back, an overall wonderful experience

Wonderful execution on dishes that are to die for. If you walk from this restaurant less than impressed, you have no business eating fine food. The service is attentive and fine - and with this food anyone focusing on service does not have a pallet.

One of the best of Manhattan - and who would have thought it would be downtown.

SHO Shaun Hergatt has potential to be an outstanding restaurant.
Unfortunately the great food/vibe is over shadowed by very poor service that leaves a sour taste in ones mouth.

I don't recommend this restaurant unless you're looking to pay a fortune for terrible service!

My favorite (new) place in the Financial District. Gorgeous interior, friendly staff, amazing food, and it's $$$$$! Word of advice - always order the special. I've had the short ribs and the rack of lamb, and both were incredibly tender.

This is one of my top five places to eat in New York City, hands down. Great atmosphere, good food, just an overall great time when I go. Food comes with generous portions and wine selection is great. No parking though.

I really wanted a place like this in the hood and wanted to love it. I think they hit the mark as far as feel, colors, finishes, etc, but the service is somewhat lame. Wine selection is great. Food on the menu looks great but when it comes to your table it's just okay. Service is in need. Been there now two times due to location. The overall feel of the service is not what you'd expect from a NEW place trying to impress. Hopefully they'll figure it out. Three stars because we've been desperate.

The menu doesn't tell you much so be sure to ask your server to describe the dishes for you. Even though I knew what I wanted to order, i just liked listening to our excellent server lovingly articulate each dish.

    Great atmosphere!

This place, which is new, is a great find. After cigars, after a show, reconnecting with friends, there is nothing that Hergatt can't do. I love that their menu ranges from Chinese pork dishes to the most French thing imaginable.

Its a staple (in the making)

I am glad I tried Sho Shun Hergatt and would like to go again, soon. The old man loved it, but I was left feeling not 100% satisfied. Maybe I was tired/off, or maybe I was still coming off of my fabulous meal at Boulud the night before, but it just didn't do it for me as much as it has for everyone else. Based on this experience, he would have given it a 5 and I would have given it a 3, so 4 stars it is.

Beautiful room, yes. But pompous to the core.

When you walk into this restaurant you get transported to Hong Kong. Ambiance, decor, hospitality, and design are totally visit worthy. You would not expect to find this kind of restaurant in NYC.
