Hidden within Crifdogs, this new hipster-cum-dive-bar imitation employs the epitome of sneakiness with a telephone booth entry point (think Superman), outfitted with a camera and buzzer for exclusive crowd control. Relying on reverse psychology, it’s obvious that news of Please Don’t Tell has already spread like wildfire, quickly hitting the 'burbs with the reputation of the latest hipster bar in St. Marks.

Accordingly, after all the buzz-ness has been exhausted by “in-the-know” people, the secret will be more difficult to keep. The décor ranges from faux white leather bar stools and floor-to-ceiling mirror bathroom tiles that will be all the more interesting after a few of Jim Meehan’s carefully concocted cocktails.

Through a secret passage between PDT and Crifdogs (grownup hot dogs), a full menu of Crif offerings is now available for hungry PDT patrons. Although that menu is far from adventurous, its straightforwardness is impressive. From your basic, classic smoked beef dog in a fluffy white bun and plain vanilla-style burger to the upgraded deep-fried soy wiener hotdog and Crif’s sole grilled all-beef frank - complete with wrapped bacon and avocado (sour cream anybody?) – the fare somehow manages to hit all bases. -E.J.

more hype than substance, cocktails creative but not consistently executed

I like to bring out-of-towners here to remind them that they can't get this kind of in-the-know experience in any other U.S city. Not as impressive now that I have been to Italy/France where it seems every other alleyway is set up like a private speakeasy.
But a great place to bring dates.
