Otheroom revisits a Greenwich Village of old, where artist types and bohemians crowded little bars and cafes to discuss independent music, art, and literature. This beer and wine bar (no liquor) is located in the most posh area of the West Village, past the tourist traps, and towards a cobblestoned residential part of town just steps away from fancy boutique stores.
The atmosphere is very laid back, with a low-volume indie-rock soundtrack piped in over the gentle chatter of prim thirty-somethings enjoying a glass of merlot. The bar stocks 10 beers on tap alone and over 35 bottled selections, not to mention far more bottles of wine. The venue is happy to display the works of independent artists, which double as discussion pieces. Everything here is very loungey and very cozy. I get the feeling that if anyone walked in wearing a trucker hat, they’d be shown the door.
