dam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, but did that sneaky snake ever sing renditions of La Traviata while brushing his teeth? Doubtful. China Bar, the 24 year old famous NY bar has been remodeled. But don't expect the China Club 2.0. The 25,000 square feet of space has been transformed into three separate entities, each with their own team of management, djs, and feel. Simply by name, it is unclear how to connect Opera, Crest, and
Eden, (as downstairs bar, first floor lounge, and rooftop bar, respectively). But they do have characteristics for which those titles make sense. Large chandeliers illuminate a dark bar with accents of purple in Opera; while Eden is a light contrast with an open air concept, greenery, and beige accents. Crest is the chic in-between. Located in Times Square, the building will no doubt attract the midtown, after work crowd, moneyed tourist and the usual cache of celebrities, models, and athletes the China Club was known for.
One aspect which will remain under the China Club banner are the live shows. At Opera, look out for commercial acts along the lines of Gavin DeGraw, Lenny Kravitz, and David Bowie. While the China Club was more known for their rock music, its newest incarnation at Opera will take a Latin focus; the house band is comprised of J-Lo's and Marc Anthony's musicians.
Expect Eden to be the it spot of summer, with the guys from 1Oak running the place; Jeffrey Jah, Richie Akiva, Scott Sartiano, and Ronnie Madra will be bringing in the chic elite. Upward and outward views will make it seem like you're floating in the Manhattan skyline when you've OD'd on bottle service, while a giant tree takes centre stage.
Seemingly high schoolesque, with segregated cliques each marking their own territory, the third place, Crest, is a lounge which will cater toward a Eurofab crowd.
If you are looking to throw a blow out bash or corporate event, the space can be rented as one entity under the title Crest; with the downstairs known as the Opera Ballroom at the Crest, same for the Eden rooftop.
