Back to NYC Restaurants | Molé Momofuku Noodle Bar

The NYC crowd hasn’t got enough of the Japanese (Asian slang for “mother fucker” – just kidding!) restos that are slowly sprouting all over the city with constant demands for Mo' Momo, Mo' Momo, Mo' Momo akin to the Mo'Money promises of the Wayans' brothers In Living Colour sketches.

As for a recent status boost, the 2007 James Beard Award winner for Rising Star Chef of the Year was been awarded to Chef David Chang, which may have prompted the move (as a result from the influx of patrons to the Saam and Noodle bars).

When not gallivanting with Martha Stewart, Chang loves to spend his time in the kitchen and hence has decided to convert his coveted Noodle Bar into Momofuku Ko – sewer’s circle for the all the grannies out there not fluent in Japanese. Reservations might come to fruition, as the seating will be downsized from the current maxed to capacity dining room.

With only 14 stools available, Momofuku Ko is the latest place in town that you know you can't get into. Competition for a coveted stool is fierce, but once acquired the haute dinging meal will validate all of the trouble it took to secure a seat. The Asian-influenced New American is prix-fixe only and is guaranteed to set you back in the neighbourhood of $100 dollars. Hey, who ever said eating in the trendiest spot in town was going to be easy?

The food? Unreal. I expect that fully half the joy of a meal at momofucu is watching the expression of the person sitting across from you. They smile, they giggle, they sigh satisfied sighs as they experience something unexpected (and outrageously good). A new favorite, and deservedly so. I cant wait to go back.
