huge weight on any restaurateur’s mind is what to name his/her creation. It must be something catchy and appealing to peak the interest of people walking by, but also something that sets the tone for an evening spent in the establishment. Kieter Chan and Ian Brahmstedt approached their French friends for help and decided to go with Le Lupanar, which translates to brothel. While this will inevitably lead to a variety of awkward encounters with disappointed French customers, it should prove humorous for the owners who can giggle at reviews with statements such as “there’s not better night out in New York than spending all your money at Le Lupanar.” While the name suggests otherwise, this restaurant is a high end dining affair. Brahmstedt spent time a San Franciso’s Jardinere and La Table, picking up the delicate culinary skills necessary for fine French cuisine. Delicious food and a name to chuckle at…what more could you want? – P.B. |
