Back to NYC Restaurants | La Sirene Lady Mendl's Tea Salon

    Review by Jennifer Toole
An amalgamation of the lush cultures of Spain and Argentina could only end well. Imagine the invigorating music and the tantalizing cuisine such a pairing would produce. La Zarza has it all.

Chef Jorge Rodriguez, previously of Chimichurri Grill, has created a sacred spot in the East Village where Barcelona and Buenos Aires come together seamlessly. The walls look like molten chocolate highlighted by warm candle-lit lighting. The atmosphere is completed by the sultry vibes emanating from the global DJ spinning in the back.

The menu is full of Spanish/Argentinean dishes with slight inspirations from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Talk about fusion. The wines are along the same bent along with a variety of sangria options made with seasonal fruits.

Rodriguez has a fool-proof formula. If only he could bring his hometown weather along with him. –J.T.
