Review by Lauren Denhartog |
don't think I've ever been to a Japanese restaurant and docked marks on the presentation and at Kaijou, it's no different. Those craving a taste of Japanese edible art, will flock to Kaijou (formerly Wave) where the new management has updated its previously homely decor to a somewhat sophisticated atmosphere. It is quite fitting then, amongst this setting, that the people behind Kaijou cheerfully compare their food to 'works of art.'
While most of the menu seems commonplace for Japanese eateries, some of the more ambitious items include Japanese-style hamburgers available in chicken, rainbow shrimp, teriyaki beef and eel. Outdoor seating and a bottomless cup of green tea cleanses the palette in between bites of thickly slickly sliced tuna, salmon, eel and whitefish - a brilliant fusion of traditional and contemporary. -L.D
