or all you “Top Chef” aficionados out there who have been craving a bite of first season winner Dave Martin’s infamous black truffle mac ‘n’ cheese($15), your time has come. Martin has opened “Crave,” his new culinary playground in NYC, in hopes of furthering his success. We’re not sure how he ever thought he could go wrong.
Crave is a simple modern restaurant with huge windows, candlelight, chocolate banquettes and lots of art hanging on the walls. The décor is pleasant, but it doesn’t compare to the real attention getter - the menu.
Homemade morsels like the ravioli stuffed with a thick mascarpone and green apple filling in a bolognese sauce with pecorino romano sprinkled on top ($20) will have you reminiscing your first bite for days. Even the desserts at Crave are homemade which make that sour cream panna cotta with mango coulis and a shortbread cookie ($7) taste like your momma’s.
If you missed “Top Chef’ and want to know what all the fuss is about, or, you simply love Dave Martin, drop by Crave and sample away. –J.T.
