Carnegie Club brings aims to replicate the charm and sophistication of an old-timey men’s club. And they don’t do a half bad job of it. But it’s not nearly exclusive as a men’s club. For one, although most of the people you’ll find there will be slightly older men in a jacket and tie, you’ll also find some women in cocktail dresses. And it’s hard to call a place this huge exclusive. The ceilings are 25 feet high with a mezzanine and a grand 18th century fireplace.
Furthering the men’s club vibe is the face that it doubles as a cigar smoking lounge. They offer about twenty choices of cigars, or smoke ‘em if you got ‘em (just no Cubans). The bar is quite well-stocked, but my choice would be some sort of brandy or cognac. If you’re going to go all out, why not go all the way out, right? The live jazz and standards will serve as a nice backdrop for a cigar-smoking brandy-sipping upholstered-sofa-sitting good time.
