ar from the horrible resort food that one usually is served while vacationing in the communist country (that is if you sneak in for a vacay), this is authentic and wonderfully tasty cuisine that represents what secrets have been hidden within and perhaps explains why it was such a popular tourist destination in the ‘50s.
The smells that waft by your nose upon entry should be reason enough to pull up a seat and peruse the menu. Some intriguing dishes include the yucca fries (far from the greasy French style) with mango ketchup for dipping (yes there is such a thing). The sugarcane shrimp salad is also a unique take on the natural ingredients available in the country that give the cuisine an exotic touch. Fortunately you can add a mojito to your meal here without having a set of shots first. Finish off the dinner with a delicious flan dessert and you will find a new respect for Cuban cuisine.
