co-friendliness is still as hot as it was during the premiere of
An Inconvenient Truth, and the planets only got hotter (literally, unfortunately). Banking on the trend of the earth-loving health conscious is Broadway East. This new spot on East Broadway (duh) serves up modern vegetarian cuisine that even the meat-and-potato-loving lumberjack will enjoy.
The food here is from local farms and you can taste the freshness in every bite. The water is filtered and carbonated on site, which means the waste typically produced by empty bottles of Perrier is no more. Peking tofu should not be skipped, although those who love meat can still enjoy a variety of fish and poultry dishes.
The real
piece de resistance here is the living wall, which is replete with nearly 250-square-feet of plants that offer up a breath of fresh air. After sucking in that sweet, pure oxygen, don’t forget to head over to the bar for a drink or two. The bar itself is constructed from the wood from old water towers.
With food so light and healthy, you’ll bounce easily out of this restaurant – no more “call a cab, I’m uncomfortably stuffed” for you. Oh, and you can sleep easy knowing that your carbon footprint is less than your neighbours. Perhaps the Vatican should have added a new commandment when they came out with their recent list of modern-age sins; thou shall not covet thy neighbour’s eco-friendly carbon footprint. –D.C.
