The East Village watering hole formerly known as The Rook has been reincarnated into the Arrow. The Rook burnt out rather quickly, so chances are you never even heard of it, but that’s just as well.
Arrow, on the other hand, is decidedly different than its predecessor. Weekly parties and drink specials have been implemented to attract plenty of folks, with the hopes of turning them into regulars. For example, one of the themed party nights includes Heavy Metal Happy Hour Fridays, where cheap drinks and thrasher music flow freely. If you’re “over” theme nights (well then, aren’t you just too cool?) then head there for the cheap drinks. Every night before 9 PM the bar serves up two-for-one drinks, so there’s more of an excuse to get the party started (and subsequently feel like crap the next day at work).
The drinks here are innovative and the menu is diverse, so everyone can pick their poison. Beer lovers will revel in the large selection of brews, ranging from $5 Budweiser to suds from across the pond, like Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout from England or Hitachino Espresso Stout from Japan. There are seven beers on tap and they rotate frequently so you won’t have to worry about tiring of the same old, same old.
If cocktails are your thing, try the Wysteria – it’s a blend of champagne, lavender liqueur (I know right?) and a dash of peach bitters. Another great one is the Vesper, which marries Plymouth gin, Stoli, Lillet Blanc and Cointreau. The only difficult thing is choosing which one you want to try and stopping yourself from downing too many. There’s a lot to be said for having plenty of choices.
Arrow also intends to appeal to everyone by having big-name DJs visit regularly to make the sweaty hipsters work off some of those Pabst Blue Ribbon’s they love so much. With a wide array of entertainment and more libations than you can shake a stirring stick at, Arrow proves it will have more longevity than the Rook. Hail a cab and head downtown – with drink specials like these, the bar is sure to fill up fast. Cheers!

2 Reader Reviews | Good times, good people, good drink, good fare. Actually, better than good, but I'm a bit hung over right now and I don't have the energy to churn out a proper a review. This is a good new spot, however, and I highly approve of just about everything about it.
The one caveat might be to avoid this place on the weekends, when the, ahem, hipsters take over.
