ame after the mother of modern psychology (literally Freud’s mother’s name), this restaurant is equally complex with bi-level dining rooms that fully execute the diverse architectural design. Segregated into a variety of dining areas, the rooms are as follows; The Club Room (think an old boy’s room of the Rat Pack with modern class and chic sensibilities); The Portrait Gallery (hand painted baroque style portraits and landscapes on the ceiling no less); The Chinoisserie Salon (an homage to the room’s centerpiece: a massive purple silk masterpiece that adorns the wall); The Bridge Gallery (a space overlooking the floating staircases illuminated by dramatic Murano black glass chandeliers; and finally The Amalia Bar (a unique illuminated glass bar framing antique lace with contrasting concrete accents).
Quite the selection. It is easy to get lost within the space, but it’s an excellent venue for discreet people watching. Due to the architectural design you can get some spectacular views of the semi-balding crew below or peer through the glass to witness scandalous footsie behavior (think Bentham’s panopticon) but just be sure to watch yourself unless you want to be the topic at a neighboring table’s discussion.
