The Crocodile reigns supreme
By Rick Levine
own Shoes launched the Men’s collection of LaCoste in the spring of 2005. LaCoste, the well-known French brand is steeped in history being the first ever logo to be worn on the outside of a shirt (back in 1933). While having its roots firmly in the infamous ‘polo’ shirt, LaCoste saw an opening for footwear and released its first line-up in 1985 – a series of tennis shoes. Since then, LaCoste footwear has evolved into a line that's now a clean and hip, street wear mix.
With styles for women - including the Futro Galaxia and Radius - the brand has also continued to appeal to a young and urban guy. The men’s range has more of an innovative feel with a cool, classic sport line with styles like the Boston, Paris Plus II, Rotate 2 and Camden Retro. The LaCoste brand’s line has applied the best of European styling for today’s local market, a mix of both luxury and practicality.
In that very lineup is the Lacoste Sport; the “Rotate 2” (pictured) is a multifaceted shoe made of a soft, perforated leather. The virtues of the Lacoste Sport are considerable. The most immediately obvious is its gorgeous physical appearance. The new Lacoste Sport is a clean and simple design, a head-on collision of hipster cool and rugged sport.
Fashionistas love 'em; they're funky and well made. But that's the surface: Look past the superficiality and on to the shoe’s quality; distinctive soft leather at the toe, self-fastening closures and the crocodile logo on the side. With superior leather and synthetic lining, the Lacoste Sport comes in black or white leather, with contrasting Velcro fastening straps and matching detailing.
Not a shockingly expensive limited edition, just a very handsome shoe especially on a rushed-but-have-a-hot-date-in-two-hours night. - R.L. | The Crocodile reigns supreme
