Not only did the internet give porn to the masses, make the Arctic Monkeys famous, and confound Owen Wilson's Zoolander character, but it also brought a lately popular American libation to Canada: Bud Light Lime.

Like steak with red wine or Jamaican beef patties with lettuce, cheese, and mayo, lime and Bud Light is evidently a compelling combination. The drink debuted in the States to great acclaim and solid sales, yet took its time to cross the border, presumably due to new, more stringent passport regulations.

Word of the all-in-one beverage spread to Canada briskly, though various issues slowed its progress northward. Thirsty activists took to the internet and Facebook in droves, setting up a petition and acquiring scores of electronic signatures (they still count). Like cake-craving, pre-revolutionary French plebeians, they would get their wish.

Rumours of the strife and Bud Light Lime's impending launch swirled -- I even heard them, and I only have eyes and ears for 50, Stock, and PBR. Admittedly, I scoffed at the hype. And then, last week, as I sidled up to the bar during the Gomez show, I heard this exchange between patron (p) and bartender (b):

P: It's Bud Light but, you know, with Lime.
B: I've never heard of it.
P: It's new. Ohmygod [seriously, she said it that fast] it's so good. I had it when I was visiting my brother.
B: Maybe we'll have it next week. I can give you a Corona.
P: Nah, that's okay. Now that I have that Lime thing in my head, it's all I can think about.
B: Alright; well, I have other customers.

My skepticism subsided, though the bartender did bring up an interesting point: isn't it just Corona without the labour intensive aspect? Well, not exactly, though it is based on a familiar paradigm, including its clear bottle. Of course, you only have to open and sip to enjoy (it's plug and play). -S.T.

Discovered this in February of this year down in Sarasota! It's a lite beer with lots of lime! What more could a girl want. Even girls who don't like beer will like this one....

There was something appealing about the taste. It had an overpowering taste of natural lime flavor that really disguised the taste of the beer, making it very smooth and refreshing. It's an excellent summer time beer. I recommend it for someone looking for an easy drinking, light tasting beer.
