Location: 250 Saint-Antoine, Montreal, QC
he building that was once The Gazette is under heavy construction that will turn the Old Montreal building into a 432-room Westin Hotel. Located across from the Palais des congrès, the four-star hotel is scheduled to open in mid 2008. The $90-million hotel design by Geiger Huot Architects will restore the original three historic buildings on St. Antoine Street, with the addition of a 20-storey tower at the corner of St. Antoine and St. Pierre Sts.
The main entrance is already being buzzed as a hallmark touch; limousines and cars will pull up from St-Antoine Street onto a driveway that leads into the grand hall, literally into the historic building where they can register within the building’s grandeur. The new Westin will feature 432 deluxe rooms and suites as well as 32,000 square feet of meeting space. The majority of the guest rooms will be located in a brand new 20-storey tower being erected on the îlot St-Antoine, on the corner of St-Antoine and St-Pierre streets.
An illuminated fiberglass mural by noted Quebec artist Jean-Paul Mousseau will be incorporated into the hotel lobby. The hotel will be connected by underground passage to the Montreal Convention Centre, a comfort when winter hits. The complex will also feature a new 17,000-square-foot bar and street-front restaurant. On the 8th floor, above the four new stories of the building, the Westin Montreal will also introduce a 17,000-square-foot luxury spa. Opens March, 2009. | | |
