    Quartier des Spectacles

    Location: Ste. Catherine St. and St. Laurent Boulevard

    The Quartier des Spectacles is a go! The Société de développement Angus has received the green light to build Espace culture Montréal(AKA Le Red Light), an eight-storey centre on the corner of Ste. Catherine and The Main. The non-profit group has been granted $1.9-million from the city to bring the new building - which will recharge the local theatre district – to life.

    With a $20-million projected budget, construction is slated to begin mid 2007, and doors should open in late 2008. The existing building, which currently houses a porn theatre, will feature a glass exterior and house the Maison de l’image et de la photographie, a gallery space, a bar/restaurant emulating the old Lux, a box office, and office space with meeting and multimedia rooms for arts groups. This is the first in a series of projects of the revitalized Technopole Angus for the SDA. -Ron Brill
