Location: 1228 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, QC
One of Montreal's most honourable hotels, the Ritz-Carlton, is undergoing a large-scale transformation, a renovation that will keep the hotel closed until December 2010.
The Ritz-Carlton Montreal has invested a whopping 100 million into refining and improving its overall aesthetic. The five-star hotel will incorporate 130 luxury rooms and suites as well as modernized condo-residences. You heard correctly: condo-residences are in the works and these new additions may prompt the "regulars" to stick around, indefinitely.
Now guests can choose between temporarily extravagance, or a permanent housing tenure, which is tres oolala. The complete breakdown includes 130 new rooms & suites, 35 condo-residences and 15 condo-suites.
The inaugural "Grande Dame" of Sherbrooke Street was originally slated to reopen in Summer 2010, but - surprise surprise - the date was pushed back. According to the developers, this is due to construction delays (sometimes that happens with century-old buildings), and not the economy. We'd still be surprised if it opens before 2011.
