Location: 1050 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, QC
ocated on the buzzing strip of Sherbrooke between the city’s two major universities and just a short walk away from fashionable shopping and dining, Omni Mont-Royal Hotel has a lot going for it. Or, I should say ithad a lot going for it. After 32 years under various hotel banners including Four Seasons and Westin, the Omni Mont-Royal will officially close its doors.
The hotel has made no secret of its operating difficulties. More than a year ago, the hotel was put up for sale but no one took the bait. Rather than continue to wait for someone to buy the place, the hotel will cut its losses and shut down. Management still has to deal with some union issues, but for now the official closing date is December 10. Until then, you can take advantage of its $99 a night room rates, almost half of the regular price. After that, kiss the place goodbye. - R.T.
