panish fashion chain, Mango, expanded into North America with the opening of a store on Ste. Catherine Street near Metcalfe three years ago. Mango, until now, carried ladies clothing only, leaving all the poor boyfriends sulking by the change rooms with nothing to look at as their girlfriend’s asked their opinion on everything they put on. Now the guys can get right in there since the store has decided to start carrying a men’s line. The clothes are European-inspired with polo shirts, button-down sweaters, slim pants and flashy blazers. The collection is aptly labeled HE and will no doubt match the ladies’ collection.

Mango’s feminine line plays with layering, offering transparent blouses to be worn under cardigans. Muted light colours and elementary lines prevail. The collection pays homage to gypsy chic with metallic embroidered arabesques and crocheted details. Aged metal rules their accessory and jewellery departments.

The design of the store is slick and contemporary, but not in the cheap way of white walls and metal hangers. The Mango store has wide windows, hardwood floors and shockingly alive mannequins that make shopping for a colourful tee a rich experience. And now your boy can come to or you boys can finally go without your girls and pick up the latest in European fashion. -MBO
