    Young People Fucking
    Opening June 13, 2008

Well, not that young; that would just be sick. Young People Fucking doesn't need much explanation: it's a prestige picture with a cast of master-class thespians set in the turbulent years proceeding - oh, wait, no it's a sex comedy that follows five couples, um, fucking. I hope my mother isn't reading this - not because of the language, I just don't want to go see this with her. Bonus: Callum Blue is in it (he was great in Dead Like Me). -S.T.

    Get Smart
    Opening June 20, 2008

I've been on a '60s kick as of late and infatuations with Zouzou and Agent 99 have proven anachronistically infuriating. Luckily the latter gets a revisit - albeit in modern form - care of this remount of the classic Mel Brooks-created television show. Sure, Barbra Feldon's not in it - too bad - but Anne Hathaway will do. Starring as the titular Smart (aka Agent 86), Steve Carell and his restrained spastic energy should fill Don Adams's famed shoes with acceptable aplomb. Also, with the recent revitalization of the Bond franchise, this secret agent satire is topical. Academy Award Winner, Alan Arkin, and the greatest wrestler-turned-actor of all time, Dwayne Johnson (sorry, Andre the Giant), also star. Naturally, expect chaos, control and KAOS and CONTROL. -S.T.

    My Winnipeg
    Opening June 20, 2008

Before I continue I should point out that I've never been to Winnipeg. Moving on: my Winnipeg consists of the Weakerthans, my friend, Seaner, a Jets hat that I lost in the third grade, visions of large mosquitoes, and that time that a drunk cougar yelled in my ear about Albert Street. Presumably, Winnipeg native and surreal filmmaker par excellence, Guy Maddin (The Saddest Music in the World), knows more than I do. Though billed as a documentary, it's still a Maddin film so look for mind-fuck flashbacks and etherealness. -S.T.

    The Love Guru
    Opening June 24, 2008

Mike Myers, I’m sure, has been waiting to make this movie all of his life. After growing up in Scarborough, Ontario, Myers bleeds the Toronto Maple Leafs’ blue and white. So of course, it was only a matter of time before he made a movie about hockey. Myers will play a self-help guru who is commissioned to settle a rift between a Leafs player (Romany Malco) and his estranged wife, who dates LA Kings star Jacques Grande (Justin Timberlake) for revenge. Timberlake tops the list of the strange cast, including Jessica Alba as the team’s owner and Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) as the team’s coach. Verne is good, but he’s no Emilio Estevez. -R.T.
