With Xococava - the Catalan name for chocolate which incorporates French, Italian, and Spanish influences -open for over a month, White is happily settled in; though it took many a tasting to get to this point. Macdonald and Penfold's vision (the former the Proprietor, and the latter Proprietor and Chef at next door Cava), was to create a space where the treats were elevated to the level of a jewelry store, with precious goods encased behind glass units, and all the equipment hidden away. The shop is ever so cheeky, with stickers for chocolate boxes with sayings like "Sure to increase your bandwidth;" and broken plates from Avalon, a former Macdonald venture, form an all-white mural on the East wall.
Yes, the shop is cute and small, with seating outside; but the goods for purchase are the focus. With an intention to appeal to both the more sophisticated and young at heart, there are a range of options. Marshmallows (the flavours change frequently- we saw cassis, orange, and passion fruit the couple times we were there), and toffee are some of the simple confections for purchase; while candied ginger and orange peels dipped in chocolate present nice hostess gifts.
