Futuristic car appeals to environment and wallet
By Desmond Carter in Getting Around
Remember the Jetsons? George, Jane, and company would feel right at home in this personal electric vehicle (PEV) created by the little-known rising star, Myers Motors. The car itself looks like something Pixar might have dreamed up, but it certainly will catch some eyes. Shaped kind of like a nose, the No More Gas – affectionately called NmG – is designed solely for one person, and is perfect for zipping around town to do some errands in. A tiny trunk is perfect for a few shopping bags, but that’s about it.

As much as the car is modern, its design is also staunchly retro in nature. Unforeseen curves and bold colours that are reminiscent those popular in the 60s, 70s, and 80s make this tiny machine stand out even more. A single headlight at the front (similar to a motorcycle) is also different from the norm, and lends the car a comical appeal.

But beauty is more than skin deep for this tiny auto. Beyond the stellar surface is a motor that would make Mother Nature cry tears of joy. The electric engine allows the car to travel up to speeds of 75 mph (120 km/h), at a rate of $0.02 per mile. It’s tiny size also owes to its environmental friendliness, as the vehicle can travel 25 to 30 miles on a single charge.

The size also enables drastic reductions in fuel consumption, earning it the title of the most energy efficient vehicle on the road today. Its size also allows the NmG to achieve a range of 25 to 30 miles, making it suitable for most commutes. All it takes is plugging the vehicle into a wall socket, and the battery can go from drained to fully charged within a brief three hour period (that’s quicker than the old models of iPods!).

It all translates to fuel costs that are typically 75% less than a conventional car running on gasoline. Furthermore, ecophiles will be happy to know that the NmG reduces emissions by approximately 70%, relative to traditional cars. All of this translates into goodness for the environment and your wallet.

The benefits of this tiny machine don’t end yet, though. In terms of everyday advantages, there’s plenty. For one, the car is certified to travel in car pool lanes, as one person makes it “fully occupied.” This translates to quicker commutes, without the need to drive your annoying coworkers home solely to save on gas and time. The NmG also proves that bigger isn’t necessarily better. The car can fit into tiny spaces typically reserved for motorbikes, and parallel parking is a breeze. Frustrations of finding a primo parking spot in the heart of a bustling city will surely diminish, since this PEV can fit into even the most unusual space.

In the U.S., the NmG is classified as a motorcycle, meaning it can travel on highways at speeds up to 75 mph. Other electric cars are restricted to speeds of 35 mph, meaning they bog down traffic, which could be part of the reason that many are skeptical of them in the first place.

Will you see plenty of these Euro-style cars on the road soon? At a price tag of USD $36,000, the answer is probably yes. The reasonably priced car – which will also save lots in the long run - will surely put a smile on your face, and turn more than a few heads. Now, the only question left is…which colour to get? -D.C., NewsExtensions.com.
