ith the confident strategy of evoking an excitement similar to the long running DiSalvio's, Upperclub brings this location into a thundering house of hedonism. It’s a smallish space with a great sound system with dance floor in the front and a lounge in the back.
The open main level is, as you can imagine, where most of the action goes down. Superb décor - divided into separated areas of cluberia - including ostrich leather seats, plasma screens and a secluded VIP room. That room gives the European style bottle service treatment.
Both DJ booth and dance floor are joined by a massive stage on which national performers, bands, hip-hop artists and top DJs will eventually showcase their talents, including the likes of Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Miguel Migs, Mark Farina.
The crowd is nicely mixed, and the progressive house beats get things pumping early. The result is a smaller something-for-everybody complex of high-tech club gloss, a cocktail party in a mall. Located on St-Laurent it is an easy continuation to a nice meal at one of the hottest restaurants and bars. But in spite of that, or perhaps because of that, the complex is not as personable or as envelope-pushing as it thinks it is.
What’s worth noting is that the Upperclub formula works, and is in full throttle mode. - R.B.
