The Bourne Ultimatum
Aug. 3, 2007 - Shawn Willis
Nonetheless, scores of cops, federal officers and Interpol agents would prefer him dead. So he struggles to reconstruct his identity while simultaneously bringing down wild conspiracies percolating among the higher-ups in the American intelligence community. All the while, he has made the top of the CIA’s most-wanted list, and even just the sight of a meter maid is enough to send him into fits of paranoia.
From here on, it's one action sequence after another as Bourne - assisted by two women agents from Part 2 (Julia Stiles and Joan Allen) - outsmarts his pursuers and ends up back in the U.S. to solve the mystery of his past.
Returning director Paul Greengrass (United 93, Bloody Sunday) has created a straight-up action thriller that’s filled with an unbelievable amount of energy. He has Bourne jumping feet first through windows, racing across rooftops, a foot race in the ancient zigzag stone alleys of Madrid and Tangier, and - Bourne being the calculating, man-against-the-system guy that he is - kicks adversaries in the stomach and pistol-whips them for pure pleasure.
