    Aug. 20, 2007 - Brad Jamieson
Written by Seth Rogen (the schlubby star of this summer’s “Knocked Up”) and Evan Goldberg (“Da Ali G Show”) and directed by Greg Mottola (The Daytrippers), “Superbad” follows the successful formula of "Dazed and Confused" and "American Graffiti" before it, with a story that hones in on two unsexed social outcasts on an awkward but explosively funny mission to try to hustle booze for a party in the illusory hope of losing their virginity.

The action, which takes place over the course of a day - complete with solid doses of sex, teen transformation, alcohol and drugs, liquor store robbery, adolescent friendship and dealing with separation – as we follow two best friends that will be continuing onto separate schools next year.

The story’s central relationship is played between Seth and Evan (Michael Cera), two horny adolescents who are days away from high-school graduation and headed for separate colleges - gangly, soft-spoken Evan has been accepted by an Ivy League college, while cherubic Seth is off to State. Anxious about graduating and disconnecting, the two buddies shoot for one final bonding experience - getting laid before they leave high school.

Evan's dorky acquaintance Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who was plucked from MySpace obscurity) has scored a dubious-looking Hawaii driver's license that says he’s a 25-year-old Hawaiian organ donor called McLovin, with which they plan to buy alcohol and potentially gain access to a major party thrown by impossibly perfect hottie, Jules (Emma Stone). Needless to say, snags ensue.
