But it's not a place that dazzles you; Shed Cafe could best be described as your typical Gothic dungeon den, but yet remains fanatically popular - it may be grungy, and the lighting harsh, but it fills the bill. Shed’s interior is appropriately dark, allowing one to melt into the corner banquettes, which is what you’d see on any given night.
Come earlier in the evening, when Shed is still functioning as a restaurant, for those too inhibited to bumrush the crowd that fills the space later. As long as you're not setting your sights on Foie Gras, this casual café, with its menu of sandwiches and desserts, will fit the bill. American-style tapas is served until midnight, including a stir-fry and "Shed burgers," chicken and beef burgers with assorted toppings, and... you get the picture. Not a fat-free option, but a fast and deeply satisfying one. - S.W.
