Trendy professionals, or young hipsters wannabes whose credit card leads to mommy and daddy's bank head to Primadonna where they can feel like the primadonnas that they think they are. The food is simple and unextravagant, yet surprisingly scrumptious – a steady cash flow is necessary to avoid anxiety at the sight of the bill at the end of the night.

Dimly lit and sleek with neutral tones and hints of deep, vibrant purples and greens that say – "hey, I'm trendy and fun!" In reality, the trendy is overpowering, mainly because of the tremendously suit-and-tie, well-mannered clientele. The second floor, called The Wax Lounge, lets full-bellied clients relax and sip an overpriced martini (or cognac… or whisky on the rocks – whatever the affluent drink). - MK

Last Friday, I had the rare opportunity to meet up with a close friend of mine from Dubai. It was her first visit to Montreal, so I was excited to show her just how much the city had to offer. We decided to have dinner at Primadonna.

Our waitress/model/aspiring actress? was more interested in being discoveredd than serving our table. Not only was she cold, but she was also very uninformative and inattentive.

The entrees came out promptly and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the tartar. Our wine was also really nice.

It took MORE than 2 HOURS for our mains to be served!

For the first hour or so, we were so happy to see one another that this truly did not matter. However, when it got to the two hour mark we started to ask questions. At this point it was almost midnight our wine bottle was empty and there was no sign of or mains. When we finally managed to catch our waitress’ attention, I was told that it was MY Sushi that was causing the delay. I am baffled that a restaurant of Primadonna’s caliber would have difficulty preparing spider and spicy tuna roles that are available on every sushi menu in Montreal! Even with that, I would have thought, that somewhere within the two hour period our waitress would have had the decency to advise us of the delay?

20 more minutes passed and our mains had still not been served. We asked to talk to the manager. The first busboy said there was no manager on for the night. 10 minutes later when our mains had still not arrived, the “manager” miraculously appeared.

The “manager” was rude, unapologetic and beyond everything very unprofessional. His presence only aggravated the experience. He offered the same “sushi excuse”, to justify the 2.5 hours delay. When we spoke he did not seem empathetic or remotely interested in our situation. The conversation only resulted in us feeling more frustrated.

Our mains finally arrived. At this point it was past midnight and we were no longer hungry. I could not finish my plate and neither could my friend.

To compensate for a two and a half hour wait, rude service etc. the manager thought it was APPROPRIATE to deduct the cost of a ginger ale, and a martini (which I ordered after two hours of waiting for food). I found this gesture completely senseless and down right obnoxious. We asked to speak with the manager again, to tell him that we were less than enthralled with the compensation. This time his behavior was beyond unsympathetic, it was utterly detestable. Rather than empathizing with the night’s events the manager RETURNED THE CHARGES TO OUR BILL.

I am appalled that management would act in such an unprincipled manner. It is not a privilege to eat at Primadonna. We were well paying clients, who were treated like garbage!

I am horrified that a visitor, has had to endure such an experience in Montreal. Thankfully our second night was much more impressionable.
