Yep, she's faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a mighty locomotive. And able to emblazon the word “Dick” across Matt's forehead using laser-beam vision. When Matt soon tries to gently break off the affair, it's only a matter of time before the jealous and controlling G-Girl goes ballistic, spending the rest of the film making life miserable for him. She uses super-breath to strip him nude in the middle of an important business presentation, she throws a great white shark into his apartment, snapping at his genitals. And on it goes.
The effects aren't special; think Wonder Woman-ish '70s. Cinematographer Don Burgess has made some stunning movies, so we must assume the cheesy effects are intentional. But, Uma nonetheless proves herself an inspired goofball as the hot, buff, slightly deranged superhero. She, unfortunately, spends most of the movie as G-Girl's alter ego - bony, bespectacled, too tall art curator Jenny Johnson. And that guise actually suits her, as it frees up her comedy skills.
Wanda Sykes is Matt's boss, relentlessly looking to charge him with sexual harassment. And G-Girl's longtime arch-nemesis Professor Bedlam, played by the cross-dressing comedian Eddie Izzard, the guy she dumped in junior high school, now an archvillain looking for his revenge. You don't see transvestite supervillains in many summer movies. -S.W.
