If a tofu scramble for breakfast doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then how about an actual cup of tea? This place is perfect for a British-style five o’clock high tea, complete with baked goodies. Favourites include the spicy, decadent chocolate cake, the lemon and chocolate banana squares, or the yummy ginger cookies (which could be a great start to the morning, if not for the sugar rush). The variety of tea and tisane is also quite impressive, with many of the organic variety.
Caffeine is all well and good, but what if you have a penchant for something a little harder? No fear; Le Cagibi holds a liquor license. Enjoy a cocktail with one of their amazing little appetizers, like the goat cheese and bruschetta canapé of the veggie paté. The vegetarian chili is so good that it’s even approved by my ultra-carnivorous, chili-obsessed boyfriend. While the cuisine is scrumptious, and the renovations are great, it would be like heaven if someone could only draw a smile on the staff’s face every once in a while (seriously, we do feel like there’s a “do not disturb” sign in front of the counter)!
Le Cagibi hosts many events, like local author readings, acoustic shows and launch parties. The coffee shop is, once again, the heart of a fashionable neighborhood that remains a unique venue all on its own. –M.O.
