he old Parc Avenue Vietnamese favourite, Au Cyclo, has been replaced by Feuilles de Menthe, a new and interesting Asian-inspired eatery. The new place serves up dishes that are original – a tough feat in this city that boasts North America’s highest restaurant per capita ratio. Just ask owner Tina Dang and she’ll enthusiastically let you know what’s so noteworthy about her new venture.
The one dish that stands out at Feuilles is a half coconut full of broccoli, shrimps, scallops and mushrooms that are cooked within the meaty shell. The final product ends up being a thick, creamy bowl of yum. There is also a chicken and shrimp dish that is cooked and served in a hollowed-out pineapple. Just imagine warm baked fruits oozing their juices, which in turn marinate the succulent meats inside. They’re worth a try.
The menu is diverse and includes items like Vietnamese salami, ginger chicken, tofu and seafood dishes galore. But I’ll leave those for you to discover yourself. The menu at Feuilles is like a good movie you haven’t seen and I don’t want to ruin the ending. This is sure to be the next Parc Avenue favourite so stop reminiscing about Au Cyclo and get with it. –J.T.
