There must be something in the water in Montreal. The proportion of gorgeous people is just so much higher than anywhere else in the world. And most of them show up for a weekend cocktail at Cavalli. More a place to be seen than to grab a bite to eat, Cavalli has established itself as a glamour den, an arena for Montreal's finest to throw on their fanciest clothes, a pair of $500 sunglasses, and lounge in a calculatedly sleek environment.
The interior boasts a glowing pink and black bar, green velvet chairs, and blond-wood paneling – hardly a place for a quiet night out. It's also hardly the place for a traditional Italian meal. But, while the food is Italian, it's hardly traditional. It is split up into multiple courses and boast traditional Italian names, but the recipes aren't what your Sicilian mother would serve. Dishes like seared tuna with bok choy and couscous and beef carpaccio with Minolette cheese and white truffles modernize the menu, while simultaneously justifying the high prices (sort of).
But the food isn't really why people flock here (although you could call it a meat market). Instead, this is your place to grab a glass of premium wine (over 200 are available) or a $14 martini and look your finest.
