So, you're walking around Montreal looking for somewhere to eat. You're in one of the lynchpins of French culture in Canada, so obviously you're going to want some traditional English pub fare. I mean, that just goes without saying, right?

Well if so, then there is a new option on the table: The Burgundy Lion Pub.

Don't start jumping to conclusions about the food just yet. While the menu is most certainly comprised of pub grub, it's not just the half cooked collection of greasy meat pies that you're imagining.

No, in recent years there has been a movement in Britain to revitalize pub food for diners with a more discerning gastropub palette. The Burgundy Lion represents a North American outlet for this growing gastropub trend.

I popped into The Burgundy Lion for the mixed nuts eveing about 2 weeks ago. It was quiet, but not dead quiet, relaxed, calm quiet. There was a dabble of cumstomers decorating the rich furniture in the front, and a flock of them sitting "outside" in the inside oustide patio. The decor was perfect for the name and atmosphere the pub is going for. Rich dark woods, simple clean designs, great vibe. The music was great, the bartender very friendly, and the drinks were not watered down!! I have yet to taste the food, but willdefinitely go back, because the place was very welcoming :) Def massive thumbs ups!

We were a group of 8 ladies who went to eat before going to the theatre - what fun! From Jean Francois who took the reservation and answered my questions to Peppa (not sure of the spelling) our lovely and efficient waitress to our charming waiter who brought our food and who answered the "parrot like squawk" to tell him the order was ready to the yummy food...refreshing beverages...delicious desserts, everything was wonderful. We tried the steak, fish and chips, hamburger, chicken, salads, shepherd's pie, etc. all yummy. Where we were seated made it seem like we had our own private dining room overlooking the patio. As someone in our group said, the food was good but the service was excellent. It was our first time but it won't be our last. Thanks to all of you!

A first visit - for lunch. Courteous service, precise information and beautiful presentation were surpassed only by the quality of the food.
Granted, my friend and I each had a cold dish, so I can't comment on the hot ones (yet!).
But based on the experience we both simply cannot wait to go back.

I am sad to report the food was TERRIBLE. The yorkshire puddings were a joke, anyone who has ever had a real yorksire would be appalled to be served this. Roast beef was fatty and overdone.
Fish and chips were mediocre. Food was also served cold.
Several items on the food menu were unavailable, as were a couple of the beers.
    I won't be returning.
