Giving local musicians a place to play was an important part of it. But being a bar with a social conscience was their foremost goal. They have succeeded. There is never a mandatory cover charge, but a voluntary donation of five bucks during their fund raisers garners you a hand-brand for happy hour prices all night long. Your goodwill fin goes to important causes such as Greenpeace, Doctors without Borders and children’s’ charities. Sunday’s open mic opportunity allows even folkies to perform without getting laughed off the stage. And every Monday night you can join the jam-packed house of players busting their brains for free rounds of booze in the weekly Trivia Night competition.

My only complaint here is that the bars are far too short for people to become buddies with the barkeeps. Other than that, I am tuning up my twelve-string for next Sunday. Now where did all those flowers go? - S.C.
