nter Blu, and you know you've entered a club-lounge of deep blue proportions. A fun crowd of twenty-somethings with a healthy respect for a good underground sound make their way to Blu, a big, hearty - and nicely appointed, by the way - space, with an entirely monstrous sound system and DJ roster.
On Friday and Saturday nights, Blu opens up all levels, which features a medium-size dance floor, couches and a long bar. Friday is popular for its long-running residency and house music. With a mix of hip-hop, old school, house and R&B, Blu has become a popular downtown club. You can come here and socialize on a couch, have a drink, dance or you can party with a DJ.
Without slicing the 'blue' scene too thinly, you'd best know to expect much of the namesake colour, and music with a relentless beat, coming at you out of an extraordinary sound system, even better than the one Industry used to have.
Blu is a space of multi-levels & multi rooms, 6000 square feet and a VIP room & bar, available for advance reservations. Open Tuesday through Sunday, Blu was designed to attract the international crowd that flocks to, say, Globe and Bronte, but that wants more room to dance.
Blu, which already has a sizable slice of the upscale, young underground scene, brings in some strong DJ's. Blu has become an internationally known joint that is not for everyone, and might make some of you a little annoyed. You might not get in one night. You might pay a lot for a drink. The music might drown you. But, if you see yourself in any of this, don't wait in line. Don't worry about looking beautiful. Don't worry about your maxed-out Visa card. Go to Bronte and have your shiny, little martini and don't think about it. - S.W.
