eavers bring thoughts of furry Canadian lesbians and productivity to mind – probably not exactly what owner/chef Jérôme Ferrer was hoping to evoke when he named Beaver Hall last Fall. Well, maybe the Canadian bit and the productivity would apply directly and the lesbianism indirectly? Beaver’s not on the menu so you won’t be tempted to eat.... ok, I’m moving on.
Beaver Hall is a sweet lunch place. The wait staffers are well-versed and seem as if nothing would be more appealing to them than serving you your dinner for the duration of your visit. This is a nice, ego-stroking touch. The design is light and well thought out. Banquettes line the whole restaurant making for as much privacy as you and you guest(s) desire.
The fine wine list is expertly chosen with the majority of it coming in from France. Most of the bottles ring in at around $50.
The food is cheap with two courses adding up to less than $25. Luxury burgers and the sumptuous La Metelote seafood extravaganza are local favourites. Be sure to ask your waiter for his or her menu suggestions, however, because rumor has it that some choices are a real disappointment, but when you choose well you go home happy. No beaver munching allowed. –J.T.
