ou don't care about the single, you like what's under it: records weren't always for Urban-Outfitter-inspired wall decorations. Straying McGill students and other scruff-and-meander Montrealers fill this rock-ish lounge on a nightly basis. Expect a deep-beat-less shrug, loud-strum, and pick vibe. In the summertime, find a spot on the view-heavy roof-top terrace where you can discuss the ascent of the proletariat, Boomer failings or subversive pint-selection; because A-Sides are for sloths and philistines.

4 Reader Reviews | I was pretty upset after I read the review on B side. I'm a girl from the south shore that loves going out, but was extremely disapointed with some of the clubs and bars that Montreal has to offer. When I went to B side I realized that it has all the music that the other clubs are missing. They've got everything from Elvis, to Bedouin Soundclash to Wyclif. Something that did bother me was that there wasn't a lot of guys, and I don't think its right that they dont get in if they don't have a girl. As for the seating, who needs to sit on a Saturday night? There is plenty of space upstairs where you can have a smoke but if your going out to dance.. DANCE! The servers behind the main bar are outstanding and it takes them no time at all to get you what you want, all of them bilingual. And just for the record, it doesn't matter who you are to go to B side. You don't have to be rich or poor or pretty or ugly. You can go in jeans or a dress and heels, as long as your there and you having fun nobody really gives a shit. So maybe we should stop judging this bar for having everything that Montreal represents; diversity. Just shut up and dance ;)

Visited B-Side for the 2nd time this weekend, and had a great night...
The Saturday night DJ there is phenomenal - playing tunes to get everyone wiggling on the dance floor.
Indeed it is packed, but its a good-natured group, where patrons commiserate and giggle as they get jostled.
Re: the line-ups - indeed -there is a bit of confusion going on - On Saturday, a doorman announced "We are at Capacity, abandon all hope of getting in" which the crowd found very funny. but then they promptly moved the ropes and let in a whole new batch!
re: service - getting to the bar is a bit challenging (esp. when the bartenders hop up on the bar to dance!)...however, if you can find a floor server - you're golden. We had a blonde guy serving our group, and I have NO idea how he moved through the crowd so fast, because were were never left thirsty for more than 30 seconds.
Loved this place the 1st time, had an even better time the 2nd.
You have to love a place that wants to project a 'cool' feel with the line-ups, but once you're inside, its so cozy and silly, its like partying at your best friends appartment.
Irresistable!

Upon approaching the door at 1230am on a Saturday I noticed that not one person was waiting to enter. Regardless of this I was forced to ask the Bouncer "whats the deal" because standing right in front of him was not enough to warrant even a glance or partial acknowlegement. I was then told that the "line" was at the other end of the rope and humoured him by walking to it. I can understand that some places have an image to uphold, that they cater to specific clients, be it the elegant and trendy or simply the kids with their parents cards demanding a table for lets say, Greygoose service. However when a Bouncer in an attempt to impress others decides to mock, ridicule or humiliate people who want to be paying customers, I tend to get upset. This particular dude made it his duty to inform everyone outside, although at the time it was just me and a male friend, that unless your with a girl youre not getting in. Fine I understand how the game is played, yet after saying this, within 30 seconds 3guys roll up, acuantinces of the bouncer, and proceed to be let in. This bouncer then goes on to make gay-related jokes about how theyre opening a location in the village for all the guys not accompanied by girls. I myself am not homosexual, yet comments like this get to me because they are just so wrong on so many levels. Im sure the owner of this establishment would not endorse this type of behaviour. St. Laurent street has plenty of places that require a connection to get into, this place here should not attempt to live by these rules considering the clientele that I saw 4minutes later inside when the girls we were meeting told the other bouncer we were here to see them before he opened the rope for us to cross through. The majority of the people inside were either American of from Toronto, its tough to distinguish them, and most of which appeared to be a young 18years old. On top of this the amount of people inside had me wondering why they were trying to prevent guys from entering, when they should not have been letting anyone else in because the capacity in there must have been violating a fire code. If your into places that are a shout out to grade 6 socials you should check out B-Side. Just be prepared to listen to the stand-up comedy routine of the bouncer outside, which with the right attitude, is probably more entertaining then the dancing circle of kids singing along to "walking on sunshine" inside.
