When this was a John Waters movie it was wonderfully subversive candy coloured entertainment. As a musical, it's frothy pop. What ever happened the director who got famous for making a 300 pound transvestite eat dog shit on camera? Those were the days. Where the hell is the Pink Flamingos musical? Now that I'll see.
