Cartier Roadster
By Scott Tavener
he lines between colognes, watches, and automobiles have always been blurry - wait, no they haven’t; however, thanks to Cartier, the distinction has become cloudier. Okay, so it hasn't really, but the new Cartier Roadster fragrance for men does have an inextricable link to a timepiece and a tangential/moniker-inspired relation to a car.
Accessories round out an overall zeitgeist, augmenting an aesthetic and heightening an impression. Presumably, the Roadster Fragrance's ideal purchaser is prone to wearing swank French timepieces during autumnal drives in an old school roadster (I'm thinking 1930s Alpha Romeo Spider).
Purportedly inspired by Cartier's own Roadster Watch, the new scent is the company's first men's launch in ages. Its drink-shaker-evoking, minimalist bottle has an old school cool, despite baring a striking similarity to a center-of-the-earth drill vehicle. Its cap overtly nods to its watch namesake.
Image aside, the new Roadster also has a smell. With mint on the marquee, expect sharpness. Although, bergamot, vanilla, and other sylvan-friendly wafts temper the point of Roadster's primary ingredient.
Cartier Roadster for men retails for approximately $105. -S.T. | Cartier Roadster
