 ased on a real-life conspiracy by German officers to kill Adolf Hitler, Bryan Singer's film Valkyrie hits all the beats of a classic suspense film, with an added overlay of political urgency. Tom Cruise, of course, is Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a German officer in World War II whose disgust at the way the fighting has played out lands him leading troops in Tunisia.
A large number of people are involved in this movie, with an outstanding cast – our world-class screen idol at the top. With telling the true story of the nearly successful attempt to kill Hitler, director Bryan Singer reunites with "The Usual Suspects" screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (working with Nathan Alexander). But the end result has in common with military operation nothing-ever-goes-according-to-plan classics like "The Great Escape" and "Von Ryan's Express."
