agy Aghion must have been born with a pencil in her mouth and a vision in her head, the Egyptian-born Parsienne always seemed to have a knack for designing soft, flowing garments that specifically opposed the stiff fashion code of the 1950’s (think tight bodices and aprons).
Together, with business partner Jacques Lenoir, she showcased the first collection of Chloe threads in 1956 at the Café de Flore. Their belief in free-flowing, yet beautiful clothing for women was upheld through the coming decades by hiring a staff of youthful and adventurous designers who shared the same vision. In the 1970’s, Chloe rose to international fame when Karl Lagerfeld became their in-house designer.
Chloe's style has been reinvented many times, always to suit the changing times. -L.D.
