More than just a shop, this pop-up boutique in the Design District is the kind of thing that demands to be recognized as cool, by virtue of its statute of limitations. Yeah, it's only around for three months, and by the time most people hear about it, it'll be gone. What's cooler than that? Checking this place out in the early days is like loving Feist pre-1234 and the Apple hook-up; it gives you clout with all the cute hipster boys you love to hate and hate to love.
LuminaireX includes the standard coffee bar, Lavazza, where they throw you a complimentary espresso to get you buzzing before you start wandering the showroom. Bang and Olufsen is the big name here, with their massive flat screens and covet-able sound systems. Other items include Mihara Yasuhiro's limited-edition Pumas; housewares from Philippe Starck and Jasper Morrison; and blue-and-white porcelain from Studio Pieter Stockmans.
There's also literature section, with design-y books about architecture and fashion and graphic design; a WiFi video lounge where you can relax; and a flower bar where you can purchase smelly plants, flowers, and candles.
Best of all is Gallery X, which will feature a rotating exhibit of local and internationally renowned artists and designers, starting with the Brazilian Campana brothers' collaboration with Edra.
The limited-time-only store will also be hosting wine tastings and chef demonstrations in the coming weeks.
