Why does Cilantro attract an onslaught of canoodling couples? It might be the elegant and unobtrusive décor. The tantalizing Southwestern California-style fare doesn’t hurt either. Handmade pastas and gourmet flatbread pizzas are just some of the items on tap here. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a private patio, although it’s seasonal so that might make things a bit cold and unromantic – avoid, avoid, avoid. Located conveniently across from the Globe Theatre, Escoba is perfect if you want to do dinner and a movie. After all, casual elegance is often much better than grandiose ambitions that falter. Il Sogno
Located in one of Calgary’s rare commercial Edwardian style buildings, epicureans alike will be enthused to spend their Valentine’s Day at this dreamy Italian eatery. The Italian-villa inspired atmosphere features fourteen foot pressed-tin ceilings and hardwood floors, complete with rustic chandeliers and earth tone walls.
