    NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2008
    By Jennifer Toole in Attractions
Winter. It’s that time again; the time when restaurateurs feel the cold weather in their depleted pocketbooks. To convince you out of the cozy confines of your humble home they have concocted the NYC Restaurant Week, when three course dinners cost only $35 a head and lunches of the same berth go for an even better $24.07. Over two hundred restos are participating in the event this year so there is sure to be at least one of your favorite spots on the roster.

As a promotional bonus, whenever you use your Amex card during Restaurant Week, the generous people at Amex (*cough*cough*) will donate 50 cents to City Harvest. Their cap is $25,000 though, then they pocket the whole caboodle.

City Harvest is a non-profit organization that rescues edible restaurant waste and distributes it to the hungry and homeless.

Do you remember the muffin episode of Seinfeld when the homeless refused to eat the trashed muffin bottoms. I’m thinking that City Harvest may run into a similar conflict, but you never know. Maybe the homeless prefer garbage picked cuisine. You won’t be trying this delicacy at any of the Restaurant Week spots this year, but you will be helping to provide the less fortunate with such a delight. Enjoy the fixed prices between Jan. 21 and Feb. 1 (Monday through Friday only). –J.T.
