Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub and Eatery in South Beach boasts bottomless Guinness kegs, a thick crowd and a TouchTunes juke box. What more could Irish pub patrons possibly want? How about a twelve-hour happy hour? Forget that done-this-done-that 4pm to 7pm drink deal trap.

At Waxy's, the two-for-one drink specials span from 8am to 8 pm Monday to Friday. Just to put this in perspective for you, a 20 ounce glass of Guinness which normally clocks in at $7.00 can be had for $3.50, which is an absolute steal – especially at South Beach standards.

“There really isn’t that much business on the beach during the day anyway,” reasoned Gordon Hyde, who partnered with Richard Carmichael and Mark Rohleder to open up Waxy O'Connor's in early February. Rohleder is the sole proprietor of the Waxy O'Connor bars in San Antonio, Texas and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Hyde himself managed Rohleder's Ft. Lauderdale operation.

Waxy's is one part pub and three parts trendy bar, a concept that works. But, indeed, the interior is pub to the core, without even the glib chutzpah of other neighborhood bars. Like the other Waxy restaurants, the wooden interior of the South Beach Waxy O'Connor's was built by the Truwood Joinery Shop in County Monaghan, Ireland and shipped to the United States. Unlike the other Waxy O'Connor restaurants though, the South Beach establishment went for a Victorian-style theme instead of the Irish college pub look.

The twelve-hour happy hour is also exclusive to the South Beach locale. The 5,000 square foot restaurant also has eight high-definition televisions where sporting events, including soccer and pay-per-view boxing matches, are beamed to patrons free of charge. Another thing that can be free for those who can get a space is parking. Waxy O'Connor's has a 30-space parking lot in the back, which is another rarity in South Beach.
