ord on the street has it that the Vita Restaurant and Lounge will only take money from men. The South Beach European dining room recently changed hands, and apparently eras in the meantime.
This is how it works: The restaurant occasionally features two different menus for the sexes, according to Lee Klein of the Miami New Times. The women’s version is void of price points. Now, there are so many things wrong with this set up that I don’t even know where to begin. Who would they bill in a lesbian couple or a group of women dining out? Would the male/female friend duo be forbidden to split the bill? I suppose the romantic and overly expensive nature of this restaurant keeps the clientele in check and the men picking up the check.
Sexism aside, Vita is nonetheless a shi-shi dining destination. The new owners are a couple of venerable Frenchmen looking to bring a bit of their Cannes flavour to the Sunshine State. Their restaurant in Cannes, Le Bâoli, has been a thriving success and the pair hopes to continue their luck on this side of the ocean.
The highlight of Vita is still its romantic terrace, as it always was before. Vintage black and white films are broadcasted on one wall amongst a rainforest of flora and fauna on the 100-seat patio.
